A police inspector has been charged with possession with intent to supply anabolic steroids.
Darren Lewis, 47, a serving inspector with the Metropolitan Police, is accused of one count of conspiracy to supply Class C drugs, one count of conspiracy to produce Class C drugs and one count of money laundering, the force said.
A second man, Nicholas Boys, 30, also from Essex, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to supply Class C drugs and one count of conspiracy to produce Class C drugs.
Both were arrested on September 9 last year following a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Essex, which was carried out by officers from the Met's department of professional standards.
Both have been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 10.
Lewis has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
