A historical society has taken its first step to mapping the ancient walls of a town’s landmark.
Waltham Abbey church in Highbridge Street, dates back to around 604 and the town’s historical society, on Saturday, began a project to show the sites of its many incarnations.
Waltham Abbey Historical Society (WAHS) used aerial photographs of members of the community arranged where the former church walls stood on the site.
Around 200 people attended and the project is estimated to take around three years and about 1,000 volunteers to complete.
