Siginificant changes to the strucuture of GCSE exams means many pupils will be feeling particualrly anxious awaiting their results today, as overall pass rates are expected to fall.
GCSE English language and geography exams have been revised, but the main change is a return to end of course exams rather than ongoing assessments.
Many schools across east London and West Essex will be opening their doors to pupils from 9am.
The exam regulator Ofqual has warned that schools could face "variability" in their results compared with last year.
In 2013, results fell slightly with 68 per cent of students achieving A* to C grades.
