The company responsible for the maintenance of green spaces in Redbridge has had its contract terminated by the council.
It comes after the council claimed no grounds maintenance work had been carried out since November 4.
Ground Control Ltd was responsible for the maintenance of the majority of green spaces in the borough, including a number of parks, grass verges and hedges and green spaces at council-owned housing sites and some schools.
The council said it had made arrangements for immediate and critical works to be carried out.
Councillor Wes Streeting, deputy leader and cabinet member for health, said: “We have a responsibility to make sure we’re doing everything we can to ensure value for money on all of our contracts.
"In the current climate it’s even more important that we’re getting our money’s worth for services we’re paying people to deliver.
“Unfortunately, Ground Control’s work from the start of the year has just not met the standards we were expecting, for example, the number of times grass was cut was well below what was required.
“We’ve received complaints from residents about the standard of work so we’ve had to take action to make sure our important green spaces are maintained the way they should be.
“We have tried to work with Ground Control so that services could be improved, but this hasn’t happened.
“To add to this, work has completely stopped since November 4 and staff had been sent home. This isn’t acceptable, so we had to move quickly to resolve this.”
Ground Control Ltd has been contacted for comment.
