Police are appealing for help after a woman needed facial surgery following an attack at a Tube station.

British Transport Police (BTP) has released a CCTV image of a man wanted in connection with the assault at Holborn underground station on November 19.

The 34-year-old woman suffered a deep cut to the bridge of her nose after being hit in the face as she approached the escalator for the Piccadilly Line at around 10.45pm.

The extent of her injuries meant she needed surgery to repair the damage.

Prior to the assault, officers believe the attacker had travelled back and forth from Epping to Holborn on the Central line, stopping at different stations along the way.

A BTP spokesman, said: "At this stage, we are not clear at exactly what stations he stopped at, only that it was the route between Epping and Holborn."

Detective Sergeant Douglas Fairbairn of BTP, added: "I appeal to anyone who may know this man in the CCTV image as he may have vital information which could help us in our investigations into this assault."

Anyone with information is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference T-SUB/B3 of 20/01/15, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
