The troubled trust running hospitals serving Redbridge will be inspected by the health watchdog in March, it has been announced.

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust will be scrutinised by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors between March 2 and 6.

The trust, which runs King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s in Romford, was placed in special measures in December 2013.

At the time, the CQC said poor management was putting patients’ lives at risk and the trust’s leadership had failed to improve services despite previous warnings.

Inspectors found "issues were clearly affecting patients" in A&E departments.

Chief executive Averil Dongworth retired last year and was replaced by Matthew Hopkins.

The trust has released monthly progress reports on progress and a twitter Q&A with Mr Hopkins will take place on February 24, from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The A&E department at King George has been earmarked for closure and the trust last year was found to have a debt of nearly £40m.

Ahead of the inspection, the CQC is asking the public for their views on services.
