Residents experiencing "mini earthquakes" due to a road defect say they are not surprised by Waltham Forest council's unwillingness to repair the road.

Neighbour's Anthony Colocasidou, Robert Guy and Claire David of Larkshall Road, Chingford, claim their homes have shaken even since a section of the road was dug up in 2011 to prepare for homes built opposite.

Mr Guy, 43, has been pushing for action from the council for five years, but says officers have been reluctant to carry out a vibration test or experience the tremors for themselves.

They say the vibrations, which cause ornaments and furniture to shake, are caused by heavy vehicles driving at speed towards the junction with Kings Road.

Mr Guy said he has to "brace himself" when vehicle come along at speed and described them as "mini earthquakes."

The neighbours have called on the council to investigate the issue further but the council has said no.

A spokesman, said: "The Highways Department has visited the site on several occasions and in their professional view there are no visible defects that would justify digging up a large section of the road."

Mr Guy said while the response was "disappointing, it was not unexpected" of the council.

"We have explained several times to various people at the council that this problem started after the road was excavated.

"It was raised straight after the problem occurred and there was no issue prior to that.

"I have asked them to advise why this would have only occurred after the road was excavated, who is responsible for those excavations, and why they think just looking at the road is sufficient?

"They have ignored these questions and never answered them other than to say that a ‘visual’ inspection shows no issues, without actually speaking to us.

"My expectation is that they would carry out some vibration tests in a much more scientific manner and actually come and see the issue first hand," said the 43-year-old

Mr Colocasidou, 36, spent thousands refurbishing his home before moving in with his wife in 2011.

But now cracks have appeared in the coving and through the marble flooring in his bathroom.

He told the Guardian, his bed "literally shakes" when a HVG passes.
