TWO muggers fled from an attack in South Woodford after a resident heard them robbing a man outside his home.

They had picked out a 31-year-old man as he walked down Mulberry Way at 11.30pm on Thursday, March 22, sneaking up behind him and holding a knife to his back.

The one holding the knife came around to face him and, putting the knife to the man's throat, demanded everything he had.

He handed over his wallet and phone and the men started to walk off but then turned and demanded the man's pin number.

He made up a false number and the attackers again turned to leave. One of them told the other to go and check the number but at this point a man called from a window and asked what was going on, and the two men ran off in the direction of the North Circular.

The first attacker is described as around 20-years-old, black, and 5ft 10ins tall, with short black hair and a stocky build. He was wearing a black jumper and trousers with light coloured trainers and, over his face, a dark coloured scarf with red piping.

The second is thought to be also around 20-years-old, 6ft tall, and black with a thin build, wearing a khaki jacket and dark coloured trousers and also had a scarf over his face.

Anyone with information should call DC David Taylor in the burglary and robbery squad of Ilford police on 8345 2667.
