UKIP has seen its support in some areas of Waltham Forest double, according to the party.

Last week, Rosie Beattie, the party candidate for Leyton and Wanstead achieved 2,341 votes at the polls in the general election – placing her in fourth place.

Miss Beattie has publically thanked those who supported her campaign, suggesting support is rising for the party.

“To those who support our fight for British sovereignty and freedom, ambition and aspiration.

“To those who believe that Britain is more than just a star on someone else's flag. To those who want to see a UKIP MP fight for the rights and quality of life for the people of Leyton and Wanstead and not just sit back and take your support for granted.”

The candidate said her party had done “very well” in the election, achieving double the number of votes in Leyton and Wanstead compared to 2010.

“We have quadrupled our number of votes since the 2010 election and with nearly four million votes we are now the third largest party in Britain in terms of vote share, with a 10 per cent increase being the biggest increase of any party.

"Whilst this general election battle may be over, our campaign for a better and stronger Britain goes on with renewed vigour and determination.”

In 2010 Graham Wood received 1,080 votes in the constituency.

John Cryer was re-elected in Leyton and Wanstead.

The MP, who has held the seat since 2010, won 23,858 votes at the count at Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

Conservative Matthew Scott achieved the second highest number of votes with 8,939 votes.

Third was the Green Party’s Ashley Gunstock with 2,974, followed by UKIP’s Rosie Beattie with 2,341.

Lib Dems' Carl Quilliam took 2,304 votes and independent Mahtab Aziz received 289 votes.
