A dance school won a hat-trick of awards in a prestigious national finals day this weekend.

The Buckhurst Hill & Woodford School of Dancing, now in its 93rd year, enjoyed a successful Sunday (May 10) at the Classical Greek National Finals in Welwyn Garden City.

Four dances from the school qualified for the finals and competed against schools as far afield as Guernsey, Wales and Birmingham.

It was the last section which proved fruitful for the school with dance The Majestic Beauty of Cosmos winning three awards, the choreography shield, the best dressed costumed group,  and the most memorable dance of the day.

The school holds regular classes across Buckhurst Hill and Woodford including at All Saint’s Church Hall, in Inmans Row, Woodford Green, and St Johns Church Hall, in High Road, Buckhurst Hill.

Dance teacher Lucy Pohl said: “The standard of dance was the strongest it has ever been and all girls danced beautifully.

“It was so exciting and I can’t thank the parents and dancers enough for all turning up to rehearsals and making the group such a close knit team.

“Great friendships have been made in this family run school over the years and to become national champions really makes all the hard work a pleasure.”
