Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has not ruled out running for the position of deputy leader of the Labour Party.

Appearing on Newsnight, last night, Miss Creasy confirmed she had no ambition to lead the party stating there were a number of “good candidates” already.

However, when quizzed by interviewer Evan Davis on whether or not she would be prepared to replace Harriet Harman as deputy, Miss Creasy said she would consider it.

She said: “I didn’t win in Walthamstow on my own, I won because we built a team of people. That’s how we got the share of the vote that we did.

“I want to hear what members have to say. I can’t say we’ve got to listen and engage without listening and engaging myself.

“Yes, I am open to that question, absolutely.”

Others who are believed to be interested in the position include Caroline Flint, MP for Don Valley, Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey and Tom Watson, MP for West Bromwich East.

Stella Creasy retained her seat with a landslide majority in Walthamstow despite her party enduring a “difficult night” in the General Election.

She increased her vote from 21,252 in 2010 to 28,779.
