A multi-million refurbishment of The Mall shopping centre in Walthamstow has been completed.

Work on the £3million project began in last year and involved replacing flooring, brickwork and lighting at the centre, between Selbourne Road and High Street.

Clothing retailer TK Maxx will now take over two floors at the centre, while Sports Direct will increase the size of its store.

Local Luminaries Sir Alfred Hitchcock, William Morris, photographer David Bailey and aircraft designer Sir George Edwards have been honoured with the inclusion of panels featuring their achievements.

The executive director of owner Capital & Regional, Mark Bourgeois, said: “This refurbishment has transformed The Mall and we think Walthamstow residents will love it.

"We have added colour and vibrancy while making important connections with community heritage.

“As a result, we expect to attract new investment by retailers, who I’m sure will be keen to be part of the exciting developments taking place in Walthamstow.”

An event entitled InterpARTation featuring local artists is ongoing at the centre until May 24.
