Details of the funeral of a popular community campaigner who was found dead at home have been announced.

Katy Andrews died last Sunday morning at her home in Walthamstow, leaving many in the community shocked and grieving.

Katy was a member of many groups across the borough and a keen campaigner on issues including the preservation of Leyton Marshes.

She was also part of Waltham Forest Civic Society and Walthamstow Historical Society, and was the former vice-chair of the New Lammas Lands Defence Committee.

In 2010, she stood as a Liberal Democrat candidate in Lea Bridge Ward, but narrowly missed out on the seat to the Labour candidates.

On the day of her death, she led part of a cycle ride as part of the annual beating the bounds event.

Katy’s funeral will be held in the South Chapel of the City of London Crematorium on June 24.

The service will begin at 10.45am and a celebration of her life will be held at the Hare and Hounds pub in Leyton.

All in attendance are asked to wear bright, casual clothing.

The wake will be an “uplifting” celebration and people can bring photos and musical instruments.

Charity donations can be made at the pub, instead of flowers.
