An appeal has been made to find a new generation of skilled young workers.

Epping Forest District Council is welcoming participants to its paid apprenticeship scheme for only the second time, and has appealed for young people aged between 16 and 18 to join up and learn new skills.

The two-year qualifications in either business administration or construction are open to those living in Epping Forest and expected to gain *A to C grade English and Maths GCSEs.

Leader of the council Chris Whitbread said: “Apprenticeships can help develop the skills and knowledge needed in someone’s career.

“They can be especially beneficial for young people who have little or no experience of the workplace…  I am delighted that this council is able to invest in them.”

The appeal for new entrants comes after the council’s first apprentices finished their training.

Former trainee Louis Walton said: “I am extremely pleased to have secured a permanent role within Community Services.

“The amount of experience and skills I have developed during my time on the apprenticeship programme has and will continue to help me in the future.”

Applications for the new apprenticeships are open until July 25.
