Thousands of women joined together for an evening of “emotion, courage, tears and laughter” yesterday (July 15) as they raised money for Cancer Research.
This morning, organisers estimated a total of £105,000 was raised in sponsorship money donated to the women who ran or walked at the event at North Weald airfield.
The total is an increase of around £15,000 on last year’s event, which saw 1,302 people take part.
Event manager Gill Burgess said: “I want to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in Race for Life, and their supporters, as well as our heroic volunteers.
“It was a fantastic evening, full of emotion, courage, tears and laughter as over 1300 women joined forces to beat cancer sooner.
“Now I am asking all the women who took part - and all the friends, family and colleagues who pledged to sponsor them - to transform their passion into progress by returning the money they’ve raised as soon as possible.”
