Woodford County High students are hoping to be a part of the next generation of doctors and engineers as GCSE results were released today.

This morning (August 20) it was confirmed that 99 per cent of results were at least a C grade and 75 per cent of results were either an A* or A grade at the school in High Road, Woodford Green.

The Guardian spoke to two students who are aiming for two very different professions and will both be staying on for sixth form at the school.

Tatjana Mandil received nine A* grades and one A grade and she is hoping to become an engineer with work experience already completed at Kier Construction.

She said: “I was aiming for A* grades but these results are above my expectations, my mum is so happy and is currently phoning the whole family.

“I want to be an engineer and have completed a few work placements, there is a big gender imbalance in the profession as it is very male dominated but I want to change that.”

Aniqah Hossain was celebrating as it was confirmed she had achieved 10 A* grades and one A grade.

She wants to go to medical school after sixth form and has done work experience at Whittington Hospital in Islington where she witnessed a Caesarean.

“I want to go to medical school because love science and do a job which is different every day,” she said.

“I cried when saw my results because I was not expected it at all, I can’t wait for sixth form because I love it here.”
