Children have been busy cooking up mud pies thanks to new £11,000 play equipment installed in their school this week.

Woodford Green Primary School in Sunset Avenue officially opened their new all-weather canopy, music wall and mud kitchen to get the children’s culinary skills going by making mud ice-cubes, drinks and pies.

The school won the money from the National Lottery and Aviva community fund and reception teacher Kelly Surtees said the children 'all absolutely love' their new toys.

She said: “The mud kitchen is really popular, everyone is engaging with it.

“It helps the kids develop motor skills by using their arms, language skills by explaining what they want to make and gets them interested in cooking.

“They haven’t eaten any of the mud pies yet but we are keeping an eye out.

“I would like to thank our wonderful caretaker Mr Lee Smith, for his hard work building most of the equipment himself, which saved us a lot of money.”
