An MP stressed the importance of public donations and parliamentary support for the hospice sector during a recent visit to a children’s hospice.

MP for Ilford North Wes Streeting visited Haven House Children’s Hospice in High Road, Woodford Green on Friday January 8 to meet its chief executive Mike Palfreman.

He said: “I was delighted to visit Haven House.

"It does fantastic work in providing exceptional care to children and families facing the most unimaginable circumstances.

“It is important to remember that children’s hospices such as Haven House receive limited funding from the Government and rely almost entirely on donations.

"Therefore all of us in Parliament have a role to play in strengthening support for the hospice sector.”

Streeting spent most of his visit in the hospice’s holistic care centre and was informed of Haven House’s new five-year strategy, Vision 2020, which aims to increase the number of children the charity supports by 500 each year.

Mr Palfreman said: “Our MPs play a crucial role in helping raise awareness of Haven House and we always appreciate their time and commitment.”
