Leyton Orient striker Jay Simpson took some time out of his hectic football schedule this week as he paid a visit to Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford Green.

Orient has a long standing partnership with the charity and the 27-year-old toured the house as well as checked out the sensory room along with Theo the mascot.

The playtime room was introduced to give children with limited mobility or communication skills a whole new world of fun and adventure.

Throughout the specially-adapted facility they can travel to space, play a six-foot xylophone, catch fish or splat bugs.

During the summer Theo spent time at the charity at the Summer Fayre and the football club will also once again be a part of the Pumpkin plod event on Sunday, October 23.

Joanne Lazarus, Community and Events Fundraiser at Haven House, said: “Leyton Orient are strong supporters of Haven House and it’s great to have them backing the Pumpkin Plod for the second time.

“It was a pleasure to meet Jay Simpson and give him a tour of our hospice and grounds. He spent time meeting with our families and learning about work.

“We really value Jay and Leyton Orient’s time and commitment to local life-limited children and their families.

“We are also delighted that club mascot Theo will be making an appearance at our Pumpkin Plod on Sunday.”

The day starts at 2pm at the Hospice on High Road and will consistent of a sponsored walk for the whole family with face painting, hot drinks, Halloween sweets and other refreshments on sale.

And along the way you can search for trick or treats in the gunge tanks before returning for a night time Halloween BBQ.

Every person who gets involved will have a themed goody bag on arrival and a medal and pumpkin on completion.

Simpson also left a signed football to help with the fundraising on Sunday.
