Waltham Forest schools look set to lose a total of £4.3 million in funding under new government plans.
Funding for state schools in the borough could be reduced by 2.2 per cent collectively next year after the government announced its proposed new National Funding Formula (NFF).
While a small number of Waltham Forest schools are expected to be better off under the plans, many would see reduced funding.
The cuts come on top of a move to reduce funding given to the borough’s schools by £17 million in real terms between 2016 and 2020.
Cllr Grace Williams, Waltham Forest council cabinet member for children and young people, has written to Education secretary Justine Greening to raise concerns about the NFF.
The letter comes after the council responded to the Government’s NFF consultation, outlining all of its issues with the proposed funding model.
In the letter, Cllr Williams said: ““I have spoken with many teachers and head teachers from all types of schools who feel that this will make their jobs so much harder and are worried about how they will cope and the impact on pupils.”
“I would urge you to reconsider the way that the National Funding Formula is weighted to ensure that schools in areas such as Waltham Forest are not significantly disadvantaged.”
Head teachers across Waltham Forest raised funding concerns in their own responses to the NFF consultation earlier this month.
