Shoppers will benefit from an early Christmas present this year with extra free parking measures introduced for December.
Drivers in Waltham Forest will be entitled to free parking for two hours in public carparks on weekends and on Thursdays.
Waltham Forest Council said the aim is to give shoppers more time to browse stores and spend time in cafes and restaurants.
Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and member for the environment, said: “Allowing shoppers to park free for a few hours is such a simple thing, but the benefits are huge.
“It means that people are more relaxed when they visit town centres – when they are not so rushed visitors are more likely to stop for a coffee or snack and spend a few extra pounds in one of our great local businesses.
“At this time of year people are more likely to shop for gifts or larger, bulky items.
“Making it easier for them to pick up their presents is our way of spreading the festive cheer.”
