A GREEN Party candidate has been suspended after being escorted off council premises during election night.

Dave Plummer, who was standing in the Waltham Abbey Paternoster ward, was led out of Debden Park High School last night by two police officers before his ward result was announced.

The officers were alerted to Mr Plummer's behaviour towards other candidates and then asked him to leave.

The long-time Green activist admitted having drunk alcohol before the event.

He ended up coming fourth, losing to Conservative cllr David Dorrell.

Steven Neville, Green Party councillor for Buckhurt Hill East, said: "Mr Plummer has made an public apology and has stated he is seeking help for issues that affected his behaviour.

"However he has been suspended from the Green Party whilst we investigate the matter as a Green member has complained that he brought the party into disrepute and did hold to the highest standards we expect of our candidates."

Mr Plummer expressed his desire to carry on working for the Greens.

He said: "Hopefully I can carry on working with local campaigning groups in a non-Green Party capacity but I'm conscious that my association with them could be unhelpful.

"I'd like to think that it won't be too long until I can demonstrate that the help I'm seeking has put me in a position to ensure I can conduct myself in an appropriate manner but you never know with these things."
