Representatives from schools and faith groups in Waltham Forest gathered to congratulate Cllr Coghill on her re-election.

Among those promises was a pledge to work with Waltham Forest Citizens and Citizens UK to ensure 30 per cent of the Borough of Culture funding was allocated to benefit young people.

Another included ensuring 50 per cent of housing built on public land in Waltham Forest, across the whole portfolio, would be affordable.

Cllr Coghill said: “The best way to change the borough is to work shoulder to shoulder.”

Waltham Forest Citizens representatives there included students from Leyton Sixth Form, members of the St Mary’s Walthamstow congregation and members of Citizens UK.

Everyone there took the time to reflect on the pre-election rally.

“We shared stories of our People’s Assembly and it was great to hear Cllr Coghill commit to working with us on our goals of 600 land trust, 1200 social rent and youth opportunities in the Borough. We look forward to working together.”

Daniel Mackintosh, a Waltham Forest Citizens organiser, said: "The purpose of the [meeting] was to reaffirm our commitment to working with the council and remind Cllr Coghill of the agreements we made at the Assembly."
