A shopping centre has decided to extend its opening hours in the hope of boosting the night time economy in a town centre.

The Mall in Walthamstow’s Selborne Walk said it was inundated with requests from customers who want access to the underground carpark when they stay late at the cinema or use the 24-hour gym.

The revised shopping times, which will come into effect on July 2, will see the centre open an hour later (10am) from Monday to Saturday and stay open until 7pm.

It will be open from 9am to 6pm on bank holidays and its Sunday opening hours of 11am to 5pm will remain the same. In addition, the car park will be accessible 24 hours a day.

Richard Jones, The Mall’s marketing manager, said: “Our mantra at The Mall is very much ‘you spoke, we listened’ and the move to change and extend our opening hours has been driven by customer research.

He added: “We have been inundated with customer requests to extend the car park opening hours but also felt that we would be able to help boost the night time economy by offering extended parking.

“Given the demand we’ve heard for later opening of both the centre and the car park, I’m certain that this move will prove to be a huge advantage for customers, retailers and the surrounding area as a whole.”

ASDA’s opening hours of 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays will remain unchanged.
