A MAN and a young child have died in a light aircraft crash near Navestock, police have confirmed.
Police were alerted by ambulance officers at about 4.15pm today that a light aircraft was on fire in a field off Murthering Lane, Navestock - close to the M25.
Five fire crews, from Brentwood and Grays, were called to the scene.
An Essex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said a man and a three-year-old child had died in the crash.
Two adults and a child were on board the plane.
A woman, who was thrown clear of the wreckage, was taken to Queens Hospital, Romford. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
An Essex Police spokesman said the Air Accident Investigation Branch would be carrying out a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
The man and child were declared dead at the scene.
