The area's scout association helds its annual meeting on September 5.

Royal Forest District Scout Council, which covers the Epping Forest area, met at the Loughton St John's Church hall, with leaders from troupes in Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Epping, Chigwell, Waltham Abbey, Theydon Bois, Theydon Garnon and Fyfield turning out.

Peter Fairweather, district commissioner, said: "It was a very well attended meeting with a great presentation from two 16 year old girl scouts about their preparation and fund raising for the 24th Scout World jamboree to be held in North America next year."

Councillor Stephen Murray, Loughton Town Mayor and District Scout Council chairman, presented the long service awards to many of the leaders present.

He said: "It was an absolute delight to be able to present these awards, acknowledging such long dedicated voluntary service to the scout movement.

"One for 20 years, another for 40 and one for an incredible 60 years of service.

"At each of these AGM's I am always reminded of the fantastic opportunities scouting offers to the young people of our district and it was a privilege once again to spend the evening with the leaders that give so much of themselves to ensure these opportunities continue."
