STEP into a Bolton bookshop this week and you will be transported to the sights of the wildlife of Africa and Asia.

Travel photographer Brian White who has spent the past 30 years exploring the world and capturing incredible moments from his journeys, has an exhibition adorning the walls of Waterstones in Deansgate.

The exhibition launched yesterday and will be in situ for five weeks.

After that the exhibition will be on display at the Bolton Camera Club, where Bolton born Brian is a member, for a further four weeks.

The photographs in the exhibition detail Brian’s explorations as he crossed continents using buses, trains, river steamers, even camels and donkeys.

Many of the pictures tell the story of Brian’s African travels.

He has devoted several years to exploring this continent and has a “fascination with the wildlife, people and landscape”.

Brian’s favourite part of the exhibition is: “The big cats, everybody loves big cats.”

He said some of his most memorable adventures were a journey to Lake Victoria in Kenya which will have a featured section at the exhibition.

Brian takes a lot of inspiration from other photographers such as explorers David Livingstone, Henry Morton, Stanley and Burton and more.

In between Brian’s long-distance travels, he takes time to return to Bolton to share his experiences with his home town.

As for the future Brian says: “Next year I might go to Namibia, Botswana, possibly India for the Bengal Tigers.

“I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some places you could never get to again, like Sudan.”

As a successful wildlife photographer Brian’s best advice is: “To observe. Be aware, as you photograph you become an observer.”

The photographs in the exhibition are available for sale.
