A restaurant has been closed after rodent skeletons were found.

Salim Caterers in Palmerston Road, Walthamstow, was closed by magistrates on January 25.

Food Safety Officers from Waltham Forest Council visited the site to find evidence of a mice infestation, including rodent skeletons, in the kitchen.

The venue was charged £806 which was awarded to the council.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "Time and time again officers have taken proactive steps to keep consumers safe by taking action against owners of food businesses who do not take their responsibilities seriously.

"By not keeping their premises clean and storing food safely they endanger the health of their customers – and they also endanger their livelihoods and reputations.

"Shopper and diners can check the food hygiene rating of any restaurant or food business by using the Food Standards Agency’s online food hygiene rating tool before they eat. It only takes one minute – please do use this tool and support businesses who do things the right way."

Food safety officers in Waltham Forest have also prosecuted Al Nasar Kebabish Ltd in Leyton and its director Mr Mohammed Kabeer for a series of food safety breaches.

The restaurant in High Road, Leyton, and its owner, were fined £2000 and the council was awarded costs of £1558.17 from both, totalling £7456.34.
