The district’s MP was one of many people who turned out for the annual Chigwell May Fayre yesterday.

Dame Eleanor Laing addressed the crowds before visiting the stalls including, Chigwell School Alicia Porter who is raising money to volunteer at a school in Romania this summer.

Alicia needs to make £1,800 to cover her travel costs, including purchasing arts and crafts materials to take with her for school activities.

Dame Eleanor said: "I was delighted to meet Alicia and to hear about her volunteering adventure. I was pleased to support her endeavours and wish are all the very best for her visit to Romania this summer."

The Epping Forest District MP also met with Rotarians who organised Sunday afternoon's event whilst crowds enjoyed performances from Dance 21 and West Hatch High School.

"Once again the Chigwell May Fayre was a tremendous community effort,” said Dame Eleanor, “organised by the Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell Rotary Club and involving local people who either had stalls, were involved with the entertainment or simply came out to enjoy an afternoon in the sun."
