Do readers remember this imposing building?
It is the old Wilfrid Lawson Temperance Hotel, Woodford Green. November 1972, and the image comes courtesy of Wanstead Historical Society.
Sadly, the site no longer looks quite as grand. There is a building, but it is hidden behind a high hedge.
Here is another attractive old building that some older readers may remember. It is number 06A The Rectory, in Redbridge Lane.
Again, the building has been replaced with a less attractive modern one in the shape of 1960s buildings on the site of Wanstead High School. But this time there is no hedge to hide it. Oh well.
