A teenager is fighting for his life and another youth is also in hospital after being shot.
Police say the victims, aged 17 and 18, were rushed to hospital after being gunned down in a street in St James Street, Walthamstow, on Sunday, December (29).
Armed police were deployed, but there have been no arrests.
Detectives from the Met's Trident anti-gang unit are investigating.
The 17-year-old, who was also stabbed, remains in a "critical" condition while the 18-year-old is "stable" although his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 10.36 pm on Sunday to reports of a male suffering from a gunshot injury on St James Street in Walthamstow.
"Officers, including firearms officers, attended. An 18-year-old man was taken by the London Ambulance Service to east London hospital. He remains in a stable condition and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
"A second male, believed to be aged 17, was found nearby suffering from stab wounds and a gunshot injury. He was also taken to an east London hospital; he remains in a critical condition.
"At this early stage, it is believed that both victims were attacked in the street. Crime scenes remain in place."
She added: Trident detectives from Specialist Crime have been informed.
"There have been no arrests and enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call police."
