DESIGNS for the £496m Olympic stadium have been unveiled.

The stadium, in Stratford, will be the centrepiece of the Games, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies and track and field events.

The "sunken bowl" design will include 80,000 seats, with the capacity to be converted down to 25,000 after the Games.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) chairman, Lord Sebastian Coe, said: "We talk a lot about milestones but few are more exciting than this, the unveiling of the Olympic stadium, which will be the centrepiece of our Olympic park.

"The stadium will stand for everything we talked about in the bid, it will be inspiring, innovative and sustainable, the theatre within which the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will be played out and leaving behind top class sporting and community facilities after the Games."
