THE parents of a two-and-a-half year old girl who died at Eton Manor Children's Day Nursery yesterday have said they are "lost for words" at the tragedy. Police have named the child as Rhiya Malin, from Chigwell.
Preliminary findings from the post mortem examination show that Rhiya died from cardiac arrest following compression of the neck in what the owners of the Chigwell nursery have described as a "freak playground accident".
In a statement, Rhiya's parents said: "We are parents grieving for the loss of our beloved daughter Rhiya at this very difficult time. Whilst the police investigation is ongoing we would request that we are allowed to grieve in private. As a family we are lost for words."
A spokesman for Essex police said: "Police are continuing in their enquiries leading to the circumstances of her death and are working with the nursery, the Health and Safety Executive, and Ofsted. Rhiya's family are being supported by family and police family liaison officers."
