Teachers are hosting school assemblies, classes and even bedtime stories online to help children stay engaged in school while staying at home during lockdown.

George Mitchell School in Leyton are using their own Youtube channel to keep students up to date with the latest classes and materials usable at home.

On the channel you can find daily bedtime stories, family challenges, subject masterclasses and twice weekly assemblies to help students stay connected to the school.

Teachers are also guiding home learning through online portal such as Google Classrooms, where they can provide feedback and guidance for students.

Head of Primary Samantha Hill said: “I am genuinely excited by what we are offering families during school closure.

“We are helping them to structure their time in ways which are engaging and easy to follow and offering guidance and support throughout.

“We don’t want families to feel pressure – we want them to enjoy this extended time together, but to keep those brains ticking over at the same time.

“Teachers are loving the idea of the YouTube Channel – we have some great Masterclasses coming up soon!”
