A small charity is doing its part in the fight against coronavirus, providing rough sleepers and key workers with free hand sanitisers.

Adrian White, founder of independent fashion label Hubert and Calvin created a small charity in 2019 called Hearts and Helpers.

The Enfield local was planning to hand out Easter eggs and vital supplies to the homeless, however as the coronavirus pandemic swept the nation he turned his attention to helping key workers and rough sleepers get access to free hand sanitiser and stop the spread of Covid-19.

Mr White said: "With the increasingly scary Covid-19 situation, hand sanitiser is almost impossible to get hold of. Homeless people are highly susceptible to the virus and are in contact with the the public every single day, so I wanted to give them some form of protection.

“My mum is Jamaican and whilst we were looking at ways to make hand sanitiser at home with Wray & Nephew, I realised we could make our own supplies and give them away. Homeless people often have other underlying health concerns and it is vital that they get the support they need during these uncertain times."

After giving away 200 bottles of home-made hand sanitiser in response to the Covid-19 crisis in March, Adrian has also teamed up the London Fire Brigade and together they have donated 100 Easter eggs to the children and NHS workers at the Whipps Cross Hospital paediatric ward.

Mr White added: “As the Easter holidays start today we wanted to make sure kids that cant be at home would still get Easter eggs. It is a scary time for children and after helping key workers and rough sleepers with the hand sanitisers we thought the kids and workers at the hospital deserved a treat."

Jermaine Coleman, leading firefighter for London Fire Brigade, said: “It has been a very stressful time for all the emergency services and we have been drafted in to help local hospitals. We are really pleased to be working with Hearts and Helpers, especially as this is perfect for Easter weekend and a great way to make people smile.”
