Two road murals thanking NHS workers have been painted outside Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.
Waltham Forest Council worked with highways contractor J.B. Riney to thank those working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.
Staff at the hospital have also been supported by local schools, who donated thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment, and a local restaurant providing food.
Barts Health NHS Trust, which manages Whipps Cross and four inner-east London hospitals, has seen the second highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in London.
Deputy Leader Cllr Clyde Loakes said: “Here at Waltham Forest Council, we wanted to publicly demonstrate our thanks to our brilliant NHS staff who continue to put themselves on the front line to support us all throughout this pandemic.
“Working with our partner highways contractor- J.B. Riney- who have sponsored this project, we have laid two large road paintings on either side of Whipps Cross Road, close to the main entrance to Whipps Cross Hospital.
“We hope this communicates our ongoing thanks to those who continue to go above and beyond to keep our residents and communities safe.”
