Deaths from coronavirus recorded at two hospitals in Ilford and Romford made up more than a third of all the deaths in London last week.
King George Hospital in Ilford and Queen’s Hospital in Romford confirmed that 31 patients died after contracting the virus, 14 during the week from October 26 to November 1.
There have so far been 51 deaths from coronavirus recorded in the whole of London during that week, meaning more than a third of these deaths took place at the two hospitals.
At the five hospitals managed by Barts Health NHS Trust, which includes Whipps Cross in Leytonstone, eight deaths were recorded during the week, less than a fifth of the whole total.
The second wave of coronavirus in Redbridge is now more than double the size of the first and the rate of infection is approaching 200 per 100,000 residents.
On October 21, Redbridge saw 110 new coronavirus cases confirmed, the highest number ever recorded.
In neighbouring boroughs, Waltham Forest and Havering the highest recorded one-day spikes so far as 85 cases and 96 cases respectively.
The borough has three permanent testing centres, the most recent of which opened in Charteris Road Car Park in Woodford.
