This picture is of a rural Chingford Green as imagined in 1925 from Carbis Close.

Tile House (centre) was a timber framed house occupied as early as 1631 and once owned by a brush maker who employed 25 people.

It was demolished in 1931 to make way for the Co-op store we see today.

The house and barn on the right belonged to the Bartrip family, who were coal merchants and rate collectors from the late 1800s.

George Bartrip senior was the last appointed parish clerk in 1894.

Our Lady of Grace & St Teresa Church was built on the site in 1939.
