The picture above is from the turn of the 20th century and shows a spired building on High Beech Road that was designed by one of Loughton’s prominent architects Edmond Egan.
Seen here as a bakery called Sandall’s, the building was finally used as a handyman’s shop before being demolished in 1970 to make way for a car park.
