Two new vaccine centres opened their doors to residents this week.

Chingford Leisure Centre and Walthamstow Library, Waltham Forest’s two new vaccine hubs, are both now operational.

Waltham Forest Council has provided the library site, which will be run by GPs.

The leisure centre, however, is run by North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT).

The council has trained 32 of its staff in vaccine delivery, with that number set to rise to 57 by the end of the week, ready to help out at the centres.

Cllr Clare Coghill, Leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: “This exciting new development of the vaccine programme is a great example of the exceptional teamwork that continues to be seen across our borough. By working in partnership with our health colleagues, we are making sure Covid-19 vaccine rollout is our number one priority.

“In November last year, we made 12 pledges to the community and number one of these was supporting the vaccination rollout in any way we can.

“These new clinics, alongside the specially trained vaccinators and volunteers we have provided, are the result of our work with partners to achieve this.

“We want to make having a vaccine as easy as possible for residents all across the borough, and we will continue to work with all agencies to identify locations that may be suitable and support the opening of more accessible clinics.”
