Pictured above is the old King’s Head pub in Loughton just prior to being demolished in 1901 to make way for the new pub you see today.
In the early 2000s it was converted into a restaurant.
A notable publican named Bill Garrett ran the pub from 1912 and continued for more than 35 years. He was a cricketer who played for Essex and Surrey and later Loughton CC until he was 65.
The building on the left originally opened as Salmon’s Refreshment Rooms and is now offices.
The war memorial was erected in 1920.
