Reading the mayor of London’s comments on the front page has angered me so much I felt I needed to voice my opinion.

Why does he think he has the right to make those comments against the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the way the illegal vigil was policed.

The reason people wanted to attend is fully understandable, but any murder, no matter who it is or where they come from, is bad and unacceptable.

The mayor missed the point completely. It was an illegal gathering only because of the terrible situation we are in with Covid-19. Not once have I heard him voice anything about that, but he is too quick to try and get some sort of political brownie points to help him try and get re-elected back in office.

The people should not have been there, full stop. Those that did attend should be fined. Let’s face it, if any of those who attended had passed on or caught Covid-19, they would have expected to be looked after by our very over-worked NHS.

Speaking as an ex-Met Police officer of some years back and one that never got paid for being one, I would like to see the mayor sign up and be a special for a few weeks, to see first hand how hard it is to be on the police frontline, even more so nowadays, than when I was wearing the uniform with pride.

I just hope that the London voting public see the mayor for what he is and not as the person he tries to make out he is.

It is hoped we will be fully out of lockdown soon, we must all do our bit and attending highly illegal gatherings is not the way.
