Originally built as a town hall in Epping, the Picture House opened in 1912, shortly after the photo at the top of this page was taken.
With more than 400 seats, it was renamed Picture Palace in 1924 but sadly gutted by fire in 1935.
After being rebuilt in 1936 under the new name of Empire Cinema, it continued until its final closure in 1954.
It has had many uses since including a Tesco supermarket and today an estate agents.
