Taken 45 years apart, these photos from the same location show the changes in Loughton since the start of 20th century.
The one at the top of this page is of Brook Cottage on the corner of The Drive from c1910, formerly owned by Mr H W Lewer, a local architectural historian who deplored the passing of old Loughton.
By the time of the second photo from 1955, the High Road was a shopping centre with many famous stores including F W Woolworth. Boots pharmacy still occupies the same premises today.
