Plans to build 67 new homes and a Families and Homes Hub in Waltham Forest have been granted planning permission.

The proposal to build the homes and Hub at Wood Street Library site was approved by Greater London Authority (GLA) on Tuesday.

The proposed 750 sqm Families and Homes Hub will provide residents with access to the council’s social care and housing teams.

This will include services such as Youth Offending Services appointments, social care appointments and housing solutions advice in the same building.

The delivery of the Hub will be enabled by a residential development of 67 new homes- 32 of which will be adorable homes, 18 for social rent and 14 for shared ownership - managed by the Council.

A residents’ garden, four accessible parking spaces and cycle parking are also part of the plans.

As part of the planning agreement, the proposal states it will provide 9 apprenticeship posts and three work placements during the construction phase.

A new Wood Street Library has already been re-provided as part of the Marlowe Road redevelopment, located 500 metres from the existing site.

Community engagement was carried out prior to the submission of the application, with feedback from Waltham Forest residents used to help shape the final proposals.

Cllr Simon Miller, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Housing Development, said: “The Families and Homes Hub will provide an innovative and joined-up approach to delivering council-led services to our residents.”

Ellen Vernon, Programme Director of One Public Estate, Local Government Association, said: “We look forward to seeing the completion of these homes in the near future."

The project team will now begin the process of preparing to start work on site, with the next key milestone being an appointment of the construction contractor to build out the development.
