The family of a young motorcyclist killed in a crash are appealing for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

Twenty-year-old Saleem Ahmed died after he was hit by an Audi TT at around 9.20pm on Friday December 17 in Hainault Road, near the A12 junction in east London.

The London Ambulance Service attended but Mr Ahmed died at the scene.

His mother Nadia said: "It is extremely hard to put into words the effect of losing Saleem has had on our family. We are struggling to process his death, especially in these circumstances.

"I would ask anyone who has information about the incident personally, please speak to the police. Please do the right thing, for Saleem and our family."

The Metropolitan Police say the Audi driver fled the scene on foot but confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the collision.

Detective Sergeant Eddie Coleman, who is leading the police investigation, said: "This is an incredibly tragic incident that has left a family devastated.

"The driver made off from the scene. If anyone has any information in relation to this fatal collision, please come forward and speak to police."

DS Coleman says he would like to see any dashcam footage that drivers travelling in the area of the A12 junction with Hainault Road may have captured around the time of the crash.

He added: "Finally, I continue to appeal directly to any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision – please come forward to assist this investigation but, more importantly, to provide answers to the victim’s family who are grieving the tragic loss of a loved one."
