A 32-year-old man is due to appear in court charged with the murder of a rapper.

Laurie John-Phillip, from Enfield, is accused of killing Lamar Jackson, also known as Hypo, at a party in Woodford Green shortly after midnight on Friday (June 3).

Mr Jackson, 39, was found with stab injuries and despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene of the event in Chigwell Road.

His family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers, the Met Police said.

On Saturday, officers from the Met arrested John-Phillip. He was later charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today (June 6).

Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said previously: “This attack happened at a party and we know that a large number of people would have been in attendance. I would urge anyone who is yet to speak with us to come forward and let us know what you saw.

“It is possible that events leading up to the stabbing, and perhaps the murder itself, were captured on people’s phones. Please take a look and call us. It is vital that we establish what happened.”
