The M11 remains closed this morning because of a crash (June 10).

The carriageway has been shut by police northbound between junction 4 (for the A406 North Circular) and 6 for the M25.

National Highways says the collision is "serious" and that the road is "expected to be shut for several hours".

There are no details on the number of vehicles involved but it happened before 6.40am.

The incident caused severe delays in both directions on the M11 in the Epping Forest district area, as well as on the A406 in north east London and through Woodford Green during rush hour.

The Metropolitan Police service for Redbridge tweeted: "Motorists are advised to avoid the M11 at the A12 Redbridge roundabout as closures are currently in place following a collision."

Most of the delays have now eased now that the rush hour is over although the motorway remains closed (as of 10am).

The diversion motorists are being asked to take is via Woodford Green and the Wake Arms Roundabout to join the M25 at junction 26.
