Potentially explosive gas cylinders had to be removed after a fire broke out at an allotment in Walthamstow.

A range of allotment buildings in Low Hall Lane have been destroyed by the blaze on Monday, August 22.

Three gas cylinders had to be cooled to an ambient temperature and removed as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

A 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution.

Four fire engines and around 25 fire fighters tackled the blaze from 4.38am, and it was brought under control by 6.44am.

Fire crews from Walthamstow, Leyton and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.

The fire service and and the Metropolitan Police are investigating the cause.
