MARK Arber might be proving to be Dagenham's lucky charm, but the defender insists there is still more hard work to be done if the club are to avoid relegation from League Two.

The 30-year-old - on loan until the end of the season from Stevenage - has been a key figure in Daggers' recent five-game winning streak that has catapulted them out of immediate danger.

However, with the sides around them also capable of picking going on a similar run, Arber (pictured) knows that more is needed in the remaining 11 games.

He said: "Winning is a habit - just as easily as a win can take you on a good run, a poor defeat can put you on the losing track.

"Sometimes things can be going well but it's just papering over the cracks.

"It isn't like that here but we're not out of the woods yet.

"I think we need to reach for that top ten to show that we are really out of it.

"Hopefully we can keep the train on a roll."

Arber believes it would be a "disaster" if Daggers were to suffer a collapse between now and the end of the season and end up straight back in the Conference after only one season in league football.

He said: "For how well the club did last year, and for all the hard work that was put in by everyone associated with the club, it would be a disaster if the club were to get relegated.

"The Conference is a tough league to get out of.

"There a lot of big clubs but only one goes up automatically and one goes up through the play offs.

"It would be an awful lot of hard work wasted if Dagenham go down."

Arber is in his second spell at the east London club, having played the final eight games of their run to promotion last season.

This time around however, has proved to be a different experience, including the atmosphere within the squad on his arrival.

"I said last year that the spirit was second to none, probably the best at any club I've been at in my career," he said.

"But there didn't seem to be that spark this time when I arrived.

"You can put a brave face on but it but when you're getting beat it knocks the stuffing out of you.

"We just needed that win, something to help us turn things around. We needed to believe in ourselves and it's good that it has turned around of late."

However, it is so far so good during his second stint at Victoria Road.

He added: "Results-wise I can't really complain - five good wins in a row is pretty good going. It's actually gone really well.

"The best ones are those where we keep a clean sheet. A clean sheet guarantees something out of the game.

"I don't think it was happening before and it was something that we sat down and spoke about when I got to the club.

"Thankfully it has come together and that's massively pleasing."

Arber is out of contract at the end of the season, but his primary focus is firmly on making sure Dagenham are safe.

"I haven't really talked about it with the boss," he said. "I'm out of contract in the summer and it doesn't look like I'll be going back to Stevenage.

"There's been a bit of interest from Scotland but I think I can still do a job at this level.

"All I need to do is concentrate on playing the best I can, which can only benefit Dagenham."
